We're celebrating the work of three very talented and dynamic local artists this Friday at the shop! Come see the new artwork and meet the artists. We'll have nibbles and drinks for you.
We'll be featuring paintings by Alessandra Mortola and Ralph Lazar, as well as Lisa Swerling's collection of Glass Cathedrals. You can preview each artist and their work below!
Friday, October 20th, 6-9 pm
At the SOBU Shop
5451 College Ave
Oakland, CA 94618
Italian born, Oakland based artist and prop stylist Alessandra Mortola hails from a small fishing town in Liguria. She studied art and photography in Milan, then took an interest in ceramic making, glassblowing and woodworking. A big move to Brooklyn was followed a few years later with a medium move to Oakland and then the arrival of her baby girl. She is now the finder of objects as a prop stylist and a painter, and she loves both.
Many know Ralph's work by his Lyle monsters that have recently been in the shop. We're excited to feature more of his work in our upcoming show! Ralph and his wife Lisa Swerling (whose artwork is also featured in this show) are residents of Marin county. Ralph's work often reflects on today's headlines. We'll be bringing in some of our favorite works and a whole hoard of Lyle's, so look out for them on Friday!
Lisa Swerling's dynamic Glass Cathedrals will also be on display. Her beautifully constructed glass-paned boxes show life in miniature with an uncanny sense of humor and acute human observation. Lisa's dioramas can be custom ordered to depict your personal memories, experiences and life events.
